MYP Units
In grade 6, science is divided up into 4 MYP units. Click on image below to take you to our resources for that unit.
Unit 1
Scientific Inquiry Scientists have developed a system of inquiry that allows them to communicate, question and test ideas; this is known as the scientific method. In this unit, students will become familiar with the structure and use of the method at a sixth grade level. They will then be able to use the method in an investigation design of their own related to a class challenge.

Unit 2
Our Changing Earth Earth is a complex and constantly evolving. In this unit, students will learn about the geologic history and structure of our Earth and how its complexities cause continual movement and change, such as seafloor spreading and continental drift, as well as earthquakes and volcanoes. Notable geophysicists and their contributions will also be looked at as we study our ever-changing planet. As this is a somewhat lengthy unit, it is broken up into Part A (Geologic Time & Earth's Interior) and Part B (Plate Tectonics, Earthquakes & Volcanoes).

Unit 3
Water and Weathering Earth's surface is continually changing from both internal and external forces. One of the ways we see changes happening on our Earth is through processes called weathering and erosion. These forces have helped shape the land into what it is today, and they will continue to make changes to Earth's surface in the future. In this short unit, students will learn some of the basics of these processes and study effects through a lab activity.

Unit 4
Plants Plants are all around us, in many forms, from grasses to flowers to trees. They are constantly shaping our lives through photosynthesis and many other complex means. Students will learn about plants and various cycles related to plants, such as the nitrogen and carbon cycles as well as the important relationships humans have with plants here on earth.
